History: The sport of motocross is a very demanding sport in which all participants must be physically and mentally fit to compete. Competitors using their natural talents and their hard work ethic enjoy coming together and racing one another. The track consists of natural and man made elevation changes with jumps and turns that take total concentration to overcome and control their motorcycles. Motocross tracks are well groomed and keeping them damp is of the utmost importance as it is not a dusty sport. The riders would not return if the track was not well maintained. Their equipment is very expensive and therefore they expect excellent conditions when riding. Back in the early 1970’s Carson City had a motocross track. It was located on Race Track Road and the facility was called T-Car Speedway. For years it was the staple of motocross in northern Nevada. Many came from all over the country to participate in the sport they loved. They could enjoy stock car racing on Saturday night and then be able to go to the motocross races on Sunday. It was fun for all. Then development came and pushed the once sizeable racetrack into a much smaller area to race on but racers and fans alike stuck with it because it was the only place to ride. Even though through many trials with the issues of obtaining a special use permit and not too many supportive neighbors, we in the motocross community stuck by each other and learned how to co-exist with our neighbors and did so very well. The track unfortunately met its fate due to the never-ending development process. So where do racers now go? They have to travel over the hill to California and spend their monies there instead of making a positive economic impact in our community. For these reasons we are proposing to build a new facility to bring back the sport of motocross to our community. Many riders that grew up right here in the Carson Valley area have gone on to become very successful in their industry. Shaun Palmer – professional snowboard, mountain bike, and motocross rider. Matt Byten – X Games Medalist. Mike Mason – X Games Medalist. Adam Jones – X Games Medalist. Tony Berlutti – Team Suzuki factory mechanic. They all grew up racing here in the Carson Valley. Now there is no place for these up and coming riders to practice and race nearby. We have some outstanding talent right her in this town and they desperately need a place to ride. We hope that you will see our vision as we do for Nevada Motocross Park to flourish in this city and let it be a positive economical impact for the people in the Carson Valley, Carson, Reno and Lake Tahoe areas. Our Vision and Plan: Our goal is to create a safe, family-oriented atmosphere for all of northern Nevada to come and enjoy. The track will be a controlled environment that will serve as positive activity for motocross fans to benefit from. We believe it will have a positive economic impact to the local businesses in the Carson Valley area. In addition, we will work with local community organizations to assure that our service groups benefit from their involvement in this project as well. Noise: A huge priority for us is to co-exist with our neighbors and in light of that we feel we have found a perfect location for this race facility. This will naturally contain most of the sound coming from the bikes. Also the elevation of this land is much higher than the existing homes in that area so the sound will travel in an upward direction. The majority of the noise will take place at the starting line due to the fact all the bikes will be positioned together at one point. As the bikes leave the starting line and spread out, the noise will dissipate greatly. Summary: Nevada Motocross Park is committed to preserving the sport of motocross in Northern Nevada. With your help we can bring motocross back to the Carson Valley where it began so many years ago. Currently, parents take their children to different places around the valley - the Rancho sand pit area or at an old gravel pit at the end of Johnson Lane. Neither of these sites is maintained at all nor is there any control in either of these areas. Riders go in all different directions, putting everyone at risk. The surrounding areas get trespassed on when the riders make new trails out of the pit areas. We need a facility for kids and adults alike to ride safely. This venture will have a positive impact on the town’s economic growth and will provide an outlet for riders to come and compete in a sport they are so passionate about. Please help make this dream a reality for Northern Nevada. Thank you for your time and consideration. |
